Very pro. I’ve gotten every vaccine I’ve ever been offered. I’m behind on my flu shot this year but that’s just because they keep doing the work clinics on days when I’m either not there or working through lunch. Our immune systems are ticking time bombs that are always looking for an excuse to kill us and so far all available evidence suggests that exposing them to things via vaccine reduces the rate of autoimmune issues due to that specific virus or bacteria later, in addition to decreasing frequency and severity of infection. The shingles vaccine may even decrease risk of dementia, which is HUGE.
Are you seriously telling me that if there were routine vaccination for adenovirus, I might have a working cardiovascular system right now, even if I’d still gotten sick?
YEP! Ask me why it’s taken us this long to take post viral inflammatory autoimmune conditions seriously.
I’m fairly sure I know why, but I’m asking, if you have a minute to answer. Is it because they predominantly affect women, and it took a bunch of men contracting long covid to attract doctors’ attention to them?
Hahaha YEP!!!!! Autoimmune disorders are several times more likely in women so it took something as hugely prevalent as COVID to make it a recognizable dude problem! And sexism in medicine is a poison that sickens us all! If we’d taken women seriously in the 1990s, when there was a very special episode of THE GOLDEN GIRLS about chronic fatigue syndrome, so NO ONE can pretend it wasn’t ON OUR GODDAMN RADAR, we’d have some fucking ANSWERS by now but INSTEAD I got taught that fibromyalgia probably wasn’t real and women be crazy! EAT! THE! ESTABLISHMENT!
In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.
I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!
From what I’ve seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!
I’ll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here’s the link.
The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.
(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that’s me.)
If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.
The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I’ll summarize regardless.
insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box
add to comment box -> once you’re done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box
delete -> self explanatory
on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic
The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.
Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it’s such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.
HERE’S THAT BITCH IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR
This one that puts the little O in the corner glitches on my computer/browser and will mess up my stories when I go to edit them. I’m not sure if it’s bc I’m a Mac or because I’m a Firefox, BUT -
Here’s another version if anyone else needs it bc that above version doesn’t work for them. Pastebin link. You’ll have to “create new script” on tampermonkey/greasemonkey/whatever and paste it in.
In this one, instead of the little O, you get a gray “floaty review box” button amongst the other buttons at the top of the story (bookmarks, mark for later, share, etc.)
This also adds some first/last chapter shortcuts on applicable stories, which I don’t personally use much but there ya go.
opens box that reads “i wanna draw again”. inside lies a note. the note says, “mental illness and difficult circumstances have taken years of interest, accessibility, and skill away from me. i want to forgive myself for that. i want to heal my relationship to my hobbies. i want to feel connected to something that once made me feel good, but the cyclic discouragement is difficult to overcome.” i turn over the note. on the back it reads “wannta drawe sexy bodies awooga”
seems like this one really resonated with the artists who dont do art fandom
Jesus, look at the size of that thing. Bloody hell. His pumpkin now.
It took some time for my brain to parse the antlers, and until then, I thought this was a bear.
So the first time I saw this, I thought the moose was really short with a weirdly big head, because it was the height of the mailbox. I’ve now realized it’s kneeling and am once again afraid of just how /big/ moose are.
I like how the pumpkin at the base of the mailbox looks like it’s watching this attack and screaming in horror.
Being Canadian is amazing because you get to watch everyone else not comprehend the utter size of moose
Halloween Moose is one of the holiday cryptid group that Sasha the Christmas Tiger belongs to.
It never fails to amaze me how far fanon characterization of Tim has drifted from his actual canon self.
Canon Tim is firmly Gen X. He’s an extreme latchkey kid who actively and duplicitously resists any attempt at parenting him because that would cut into his vigilante time. He’s a skater-slacker kid who dropped out of school to be a full-time hero and got himself emancipated because he hates being told what to do. He’s a self-taught photographer who at the age of 10 had better shots of Batman and Robin than the press. He figured out their identities because he had imprinted on Dick Grayson like a duckling, but told no one and probably would have kept the secret for life if Jason hadn’t died. He literally looked at an unhinged, grieving grown man whi is also a dangerous vigilante, saw he was actively in the process of going off the deep end, and went “is anyone going to adopt this fucked up man?” and didn’t wait for an answer. He’s an unrepentant Car Guy who salivates over Ducati bikes and his boyfriend’s biceps. He had a full enemies-to-lovers arc with the girl who hit him with a brick. He’s had more love interests than any two other Robins combined and has a preference for people who can kick his ass. He plays D&D. He’s been to more funerals in one year than most people go to in a lifetime. He dated a mafiya princess. He lies, repeatedly and successfully, to Batman. He becomes a villain in every alternate timeline. He taught himself cloning to try to bring his best friend back to life. He almost killed Captain Boomerang. He has contingency plans to take out everyone he knows. He’s the most like Bruce in terms of how they think and that terrifies him. He knows he’s not the best choice to lead a team and willingly steps aside because being a good tactician isn’t the only quality a leader needs. He loves the Clash. He genuinely thought Alvin Draper was a good fake name. He owned Superboy merch before he even liked Kon. He’s arguably the pettiest of all the Robins. He’s smart, but only about things that interest him. He hugs people readily. He’s a massive pop culture nerd. He was trained by Lady Shiva. He’s Cass’s favorite. He survived the Clench.
He’s so, so much more interesting than the sleep-deprived sadboy we get in every fic.

Like, listen to me: if I could convince all my patients to get all their shots, I’d be implementing THE most effective evidence-based intervention KNOWN TO MAN. If I could also convince them to stop smoking, I would instantly become the best primary care provider who’s ever lived. If you don’t want to ever see a doctor, get your shots and quit smoking and you will be doing a LOT of the heavy lifting right there. Eat right and exercise on top of that and you’ll be maximizing your chances of being on my “check in once a year and shoot the breeze” list instead of my “oh boy I better see you back in 3 months, try not to die in the meantime” list.
